Hi, I’m Rena Laverty—photographer, designer, and visual storyteller based in Southeast Michigan.
For over 20 years, I’ve been capturing people in their element—whether that’s on the ice, behind the scenes, or just living life. I specialize in photographing active, story-driven moments that feel authentic and full of life.
My background in animation (I’ve received a BFA in Animation and Digital Media from the College for Creative Studies) has trained my eye to notice the small details—motion, emotion, anticipation—that help me catch those decisive moments as they unfold.
My work has taken me from local portraits to major sports events like the NHL Stanley Cup Finals, NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament, the NFL Draft, and the IIHF Women’s World Championships.
Right now, I’m proud to serve as the official team photographer for USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program since 2015.
Over the years, my photos have been featured by outlets like Reuters, the New York Times, AFP, the Chicago Tribune, USA Today, and more.
I’ve worked with some amazing organizations—USA Hockey, the NHL, UAW, Oakland County FC, Schoolcraft College, and others—helping them tell their stories through images that feel real and rooted in the moment.
Whether you need dynamic editorial photography, portraits with personality, or storytelling for your brand or event, I bring a calm, creative energy to every shoot—and I’m always up for a new challenge.
Let’s make something great together. Reach out and tell me what you’re dreaming up.
